Telle of the Hills is handcrafted in the Appalachian mountains by Telle ter Horst. My designs pay homage the beauty of the natural world and evoke a sense of timelessness. Having spent half my formative years in the woods of the southeast and the other half in big cities, my creative musings are a balance of earthy ruggedness and refined modernity. My last name comes from my Dutch lineage and means "of the hills."
Every piece made is crafted by my hands. I like to create as much from scratch as possible, such as my signature ear wires. I source materials from suppliers who emphasize ethical practices, and I am committed to minimizing the amount of waste produced from my small studio.
When I'm not in the studio, I am outdoors as much as possible. My yard is filled with curious creatures, a vegetable garden, and a growing native plant collection. I am passionate about preserving the unique biodiversity of the Appalachian mountains, and about supporting local food systems. I donate annually to organizations in my area that focus in these areas.
